Wake-up call

There are clock radio alarms, and Mickey Mouse windup alarms, and discretely beeping digital alarms.

This is a Mucky Boots alarm.

Good morning everyone!

Too funny! It's amazing the noise they can make, especially when you get two or three working the trees just outside the bedroom window.

The volume!
And, what time does this little sergeant start his revelry?!

What a little stinker.

lol, I was having a similar wake-up service from a mockingbird right outside my window. Warm-ups started at 4:30 am, with the show beginning around 5:30 or 6.

Then I had the holly tree cut way back. See you next year, mocker!

(What kind of woodpecker is that? I've never seen its like--must be a western species.)

I had the very same problem in Jacksonville, but instead of banging on tree, he banged on the metal drip edge of my roof. Good lord was it loud. And every once in awhile when I ran outside to yell "STOP PECKIN' ON MY HOUSE!", it would turn out to be a Pileated woodpecker. Ever seen one of those? They're HUGE!

We have identified this charmer as a red breasted sapsucker. [Did you know that a collection of sapsuckers is called a slurp?!]

And we have to say that so far this little fellow has been reasonably considerate - he starts early enough that he's getting us out of bed, but late enough that we're already awake. And after a brief episode of pecking at our fascia (our house's fascia, that is) he has turned his attentions to the birdhouse hanging outside the second floor bathroom window.

And yes, Paula, we have pileated woodpeckers here, too, though so far they seem to find our veggie garden fence posts tastier than our house.
