Spring

Yes, spring is finally making itself known at Mucky Boots. But it isn't heralded by tulips, or cherry blossoms, or the sound of frogs down by the pond. No, here at Mucky Boots this is how we know it's spring.

Yes, it's the first slug of the season. Happy Spring, everyone!

Holy crap! That's a big one! Yeeuck! I hope you squashed it but good.

Slugs are enemy numero uno at my house. I really think I need to get some ducks; they're supposed to be cham-peen slug eaters.

Normally I either squash them or cut them in half if I happen to have a hoe in my hand. But this guy got a reprieve for being the first of the year (and not being anywhere near the vegetable garden).

Ugh, do chickens eat those things? We had them in WA State, looked like big brown cigars. Very creepy critters! No slugs in AZ, LOL.

He or she may have been the first of the year, Miriam, but he or she looks like it's reached sexual maturity.

I like to think of dead slugs as hundreds of offspring that never saw the light of day, or green of my cabbage or lettuce, more specifically.....

...just sayin'....

Yow, I thought it was a snake,too!

Y'know, you're not doing a whole lot to convince us of the beauty of your area, lol. First you get that dreary gray winter, then a freak snowfall, and now ginormous slugs instead of pretty flowers.

Oh well, nature doesn't really care about pretty, does it?

Some of our first signs of Spring are the sounds of fox looking for a mate and the mama cows at the farm behind us looing for their calves. I always find the latter a bit sad.
